I'll admit, I was all for this trade too. Had shades of a Ditka/Walter Payton partnership in New Orleans. It was also an era where fans weren't as educated on the importance of draft picks, so I was fully on board.
You can add Kyle Turley to the partnership as well. Ditka said when he drafted Jimbo Covert #1 overall in 1983

Turley wasn't quite as good as Covert.
