You indeed need an ACL as an NFL RB. Even if he isn’t limited functionally and he’s not having symptomatic episodes of instability, he could still be creating arthritis in his knee, so his shelf life may be significantly reduced.

While some of you are praying that the Saints draft him, be careful what you wish for.

Depends where the Saints (hypothetically) draft him. If we were to get him in the 4th round, I’d have no issue with us taking a chance on him. He imo is a top 3 RB in this class in terms of pure talent. Obviously the medical stuff is going to play a factor though. With that said, if we were to get 3-4 good years out of him, that would be a quality use of a 4th round pick.

A guy like Todd Gurley had about 4 great years before his knee started to become an issue then had a couple decent years after. We obviously wouldn’t be putting in anywhere near that investment with a day 3 pick on Spears in this scenario and if we got a quality RB (even if it’s just for 1 contract) that would be well worth the pick. We’ve seen he is capable of playing at a high level this past year with the knee issue, so this doesn’t concern me much in the short term.
