I think all I’m asking for, and not getting a legitimate answer on, is what makes some people feel like this draft stacks up even close to that level? Sure there is promise and hope - but I think even after 2017 it felt more palpable because the prospects just seemed better and a lot less risky.

Less risky? Anzelone was a shoulder injury waiting to happen. Lattemore fell from the top 3 to us at 11 - several teams passed on him despite being projected to go higher - he had major injury issues in college (hamstring surgeries). Ramczyk was a one year starter at Wisconsin. Hendrickson had short arms and played at a small school. Those, by your standards, were far riskier picks.
