So everyone of the talking heads claiming the war is to defend democracy are what exactly.... again, I am in now way saying russia shouldn't be bombed back into the stone age but the democracy angle is the dominant narrative in the west.

The dominant narrative SINCE DAY 1 was the SOVEREIGNTY of Ukraine as agreed upon 30 years prior and the INTERNATIONAL law that requires respecting this.
That was, and still is the overall narrative here. The fact they are moving toward democracy is a given. The fact that they are first like of defense for Eastern Europe is also a given.
