The 4th oldest roster in the NFL belongs to
I didn't know that we currently have the 4th oldest roster in the NFL. This is really due to bad drafting in the early parts of the draft on our part. Guys like Payton Turner, Zach Baun, Adam trautman, and Marcus Davenport have all been busts, or injury riddled up to this point in their careers. 2 aren't even on the team anymore.
The problem is that the saints brain trust knows that some of these players they are drafting are either considered projects and shouldn't be 1st round picks, or that they are injury prone. Yet, they draft them anyway.
Then there's the problem of trading away draft capitol for just 1 player. It's always been a staple that you build a team through the draft with young talent. Then you supplement the rest of the team and it's holes through Free agency. But the saints do it bass ackwards. This usually brings the age numbers up, because you are signing older players.
What bothers me the most is that we have one of the best personnel evaluators in the NFL in Jeff Ireland. Mickey needs to start trusting him and let us start getting younger. And, we will probably need better coaches that are better teachers so that young talent can be developed.
Some of our players are soon going to start to decline and lose a step like:
Cam Jordan
Demario Davis
Tyrun Matthew
James Hurst
Others are going to start to succumb to their injuries as they begin to take a toll on them. Ram, Peat, Winston, Maye and others.
Don't get me wrong. I love this team and think that if things go our way, great things can happen this year. Especially with the schedule we have, and the weakness of our division. Maybe not winning the Superbowl, but getting to the NFC championship game. If the ball can bounce our way for a change, maybe even playing in the big game.
What do y'all think about the age of our roster.
