Alvin Kamara pleads no contest to lesser misdemeanor charge, jury trial is cancelled; civil suit also settled on confidential terms

And your point is? What? As I said he would need a plea deal w/ no jail time. I didn't think one was forthcoming, but, Greene settled w/ Kamara this month and that seemed take the air out of NVs prosecutions case. Another thing I thought wouldn't happen. But, it did.

Was there really much "air"? The case was delayed and delayed and delayed - which in this case happened because either the defendant or the victim asked for it to be delayed. It never looked like the prosecution was pushing this case at all. When the court finally set trial (it had to), that was the impetus to get a deal done.

But if the victim feels like it is resolved (through a nice payment and an apology, if that happened), does the DA's office really want to try this case? The victim is no longer put out and the social interest doesn't appear that strong - this was an isolated incident with one victim. Spend time and resources on other cases with a more compelling social profile. People think it was an open and shut case from the video but not if you consider the individual elements of the two charges involved.

The purpose of criminal laws are to protect individual members of society in the event they are victims, and then to protect the broader society as a whole by governing behavior. Here, the victim's interests are resolved and the defendants don't even live there. They're not menaces. Seems like a reasonable resolution that falls in line with how most of these cases are resolved (with a plea of some kind).
