There are two towns named Zaitseve, one is about 10 miles south of Bakhmut, and the other about 12 miles south of Bakhmut. Both are on the east side of a major road running south from Bakhmut, and this would indicate that Ukraine has taken that supply road to Bakhmut away from the Russians.
Now one can say the Ukrainians have Bakhmut fully flanked to the south. People on Twitter had been jumping the gun on that, saying they had it flanked some time ago, when they were only threatening to flank it.
They need to cut that same TO513 road to the north of Bakhmut to be able to say they have Bakhmut fully flanked from both sides. Militarily that is very similar to having a place enveloped, assuming there is flat land to the rear of the place.
Which is the case here. The road which would remain in Russian hands for them to retreat down would be a shooting gallery for Ukrainians.
So as soon as the Ukrainians have taken an additional about 1 Km to the east north of Bakhmut they will have effectively retaken Bakhmut. They will not have to fight through the streets to take it.
