Battle for WR
I'd like to see them roll the dice on Perry and Davis.
Thomas gives them a strong veteran presence. Olave and Shaheed are also no longer rookies and both are only going up in stock value. The #4 and #5 guys should be judged on future potential as a receiver and ability to contribute now on special teams.
There are the Saints core three Wide Receivers and then add in Alvin Kamara, Juwan Johnson, Jimmy Graham, and Foster Moreau. If games are being decided by the #4 and #5 WRs, then so much has gone wrong that that should be the least of our concerns.
We know what we have in the veteran backups, and we know it isn't much. So why not give some unknowns a shot? Even if Michael Thomas does what I think he is gonna do and that is have a HUGE comeback year, next year he is going to be 31 years old. Neither Olave or Shaheed are built to play the role Thomas fills, whereas Perry and Davis are. I'd rather see Perry and Davis getting experience late in games where the outcome has been decided than guys we know aren't it at WR. It is such a low risk, high potential reward move that the only reason not to is just outright complacency.
History says otherwise Saints have carried 6 WRs on the active roster for the past 17 seasons. Only once during that span was it 5 and that was for a Joe Morgan suspension to start the 2014 season.
2009 Saints only carried 5 WRs ;) But yes, the Saints basically always carry 6.
