Jon Gruden as replacement OC?
That's going to be true throughout the Payton years if that's the observation you're resting on. (And generally true of this era of football.) I already pointed out that there were eleven games over the next two seasons where the Saints failed to score at least 21 points vs that happening twice in 2012. Considered as a measuring stick of performance to this specific point, that's not meaningless.
As it is, the 2012 defense was historically bad while the offense performed at a high level relative to the rest of the league that year, and consistent with the expected standard under Payton.
I understand that. I'm just saying that 2012 is a crazy season because as bad as the defense was, the offense was probably more responsible for majority of the loses that season. I just remember thinking that we were not a good 4th quarter team that season.
-Washington game - Our offense was not the best that night and we were down 20-7 before the blocked punt. 2nd half was more of the same
-Panthers game - a lot of crap
-Chiefs - It's easy to put this game on the defense since Jamaal Charles matched our net yard output alone (lol..crazy when you think about it) and let them comeback from 24-6 but the fact is we did not shut the game out. After that crazy Charles run, our offensive production was INT, 3&Out, 3&Out, and safety that allowed the tie. The defense only allowed 1 TD the entire game.
-Broncos - We just got destroyed
-49ers - We lost by 10 points and 14 of their points came on pick-6s
-Falcons - The worst game I've ever seen Drew play :(
-Giants - We just got destroyed here as well. Was the defense good this game? Not really but truth is, the Giants defense owned our offense that game. We had more turnovers than touchdowns.
