You don't know what cease means, my friend. Cease means to bring or come to an end. That definition suggests finality. No where in the definition is there room for an interpretation that includes "starting work again". If you quit your job and don't work for a week, 6 months, or a year before finding a new job, you're unemployed not retired.
Retirement these days seems like just a legal term. Although SP 'retired' from coaching he never really retired because he went straight to work as an analyst. so he never retired. that term is used way too loosely these days. So no, SP didn't retire. he stepped down and used "retirement" as a legal term probably so he didn't have to pay money back as a penalty for breaking a contract. he NEVER ceased to work, and it was never his intention to quit working..
