Jake Haener

Huh?

Even Strief said during the broadcast that it would take a detailed eye like Drew to make sense of the INT. His arm strength while not Jameis is definitely better than marginal. Seems like you're going out of your way to downplay what was an above average outing for him.

While he came down to earth, that's to be expected vs a different looks than what he saw from the same defense day in and out. Stil, he displayed the moxie that Allen alluded to, as well as a short memory after the pick. His mobility translated on the first down conversion and he didn't take a sack (that I recall). He got through his progressions and looked about as poised in the pocket as a rookie can look. Also didn't hold the ball long, and trusted his eyes on a lot of throws.

Forgot to add, he operated the 2min offense very well!

I think the only observation I’d offer some disagreement about is describing his play as “above average” - though if you mean relative to rookie QBs making their NFL preseason debut, you could be right.

I thought Haener showed promise, however, and I think that’s all there is to reasonably hope for at this point in his journey.

His arm strength looked fine to me. It wasn’t something I really had concerns about but he had good velocity on his sideline throws and he rips the ball quickly and with confidence. If he doesn’t pan out, it won’t be because he can’t make the necessary throws.
