I'll paraphrase Brees about that play: the WR ran that route like a bum.

OK, Brees didn't say that (Altho, he did lay some fault with the WR.)

To me, that WR just trotted down the sideline, never looked back for the ball and seemed to be surprised that the ball came his way.

Not impressed with the WR at all.
The WR definitely didn't help matters at all, but that throw was dead on arrival as soon as he started his throwing motion. The DB was in perfect position to make that play, so maybe the WR should have been surprised the ball was on the way.

Still have to fight for it versus watch your QB's throw become another team's highlight.
