Jeff Duncan's take

Duncan and the SSF have a beef from way back. It's not so much his objective view that's being criticized, it's him. You'll see this any time one of his articles comes up. You don't see people going at any other Saints related reporter/talking head like this, even if they say negative things about the team. Duncan sealed his fate when he tried to ride the Bounty Gate wave to fame and glory.
Taking Saints fan emotion out of it, Duncan was honestly right about holding Payton, Williams, and Vitt accountable. Goodell laid the hammer excessively because of the player safety lawsuits going on at the time. They also put themselves in the position to be taken away from the team and ruin a run by participating or allowing what happened.

I think once the narrative started about Duncan trying to advance his career, that stuck and peoples emotions took over getting ahead of themselves and forget this is football and business. Trying to seek better writer opportunity at the time could be true for Duncan, while there’s also no other local reporter covering the team with an objective view about the team. Everything is mostly sunshine and putting the team on a pedestal 98% of the time from NOF and others. Its important to stay objective with a balanced view all around.
