Merritt had the advantage of being a serviceable player at a position that will have a great need for the first three weeks of the regular season. If he showed the coaches that he can be effective toting the rock while we wait for Kamara to return to action, then it would have been hard to send him packing without having another reliable RB waiting in the wings. Obviously they liked his abilities better than the RBs who didn't make the cut yesterday. This proves that there is just as much (if not more) evaluation from how a player performs in training camp as how well he may do in the preseason games.
