The 5 Stages of a Saints fan

As a longtime Saints fan, today seemed all too familiar. Historically, it has been around this point in the season that the wheels come off the Saints team and a downward spiral begins. Sorry to see it beginning again, but not surprised. Here is a little help for those of you who have not been here before. Perhaps it can help you get through the next gut-wrenching month and a half:

Stage 1-Denial
Example:
-this game today was just one bad game. They will get it together.
-we are still first in the division and will make the playoffs.
-our linebackers are good
-we have no massive holes in defending the run

Stage 2-Anger
Example:
-we are not getting respect from the media
-that was a dirty play by ________ on _________
-the refs are costing us the games

Stage 3-Bargaining
Example:
-we really were only a few plays away from winning
-if we could just get ___________ to play better everything will be ok
-if ___________ could come back from injury, we will start to win again

Stage 4-Depression
Example:
-I can't believe this is happening again

Stage 5-Acceptance
Example:
-we are Saints fans, and this is what we have to put up with
-we will remain fans when we lose
-it's really not that surprising to see this happen

What stage are you in?

I'm in Stage 5, but I don't quite define it like you...
- At the beginning of the season, I expected the team to win 5 or 6 games and I would've been ecstatic if you told me then the Saints would have a winning record at the end of the year.
- We stunk it up today, maybe the first time we started believing the press after we beat the Eagles and had 2 weeks to savor it, along with "4 straight weeks" of being at home (go figure)...
- The only thing that will change the good feelings I have for this team is if they completely tank, but I do not expect it. Even today, I was proud of the way they kept fighting til the end.

Next week, we'll find out a lot about what this team is made of. And my hunch is that they are not the same Saints we've been watching all of these years.

Why shouldn't we panic? Here are a few examples from the last few weeks:

Week 6 - PIT 45, KC 7.... Week 7 - KC 30, SD 27
Week 7 - HOU 27, JAX 7... Week 8 - JAX 16, PHI 6

No loss means any more than a loss, and every week it starts all over again.
