If Saints Don't Serve 40-Burgers, We in Trouble...

Dude, Payton's offense was about scoring as fast as possible to run up the score. When our defense sucked we could have used some ball control offense to help the defense out, but that wasn't his style. Why give the defense rest after a 15 play drive, when I can score it 4 plays?
I'll give you that his original offense was like that, but when he became concerned about Drew's arm strength and longevity we definitely switched to a more balanced attack that was more about finishing sustained drives than the quick strike. Even before that was the main gameplan it was a big way we closed out games. The commentators used to call it our "4 minute offense" where we'd essentially take our time down the field and try to kill the game with another TD or FG if we could and if not punt with less than 2 minutes on the clock.

Anyway, I don't think anyone is disagreeing that we need more from our offense in terms of points, even the post game interviews that I've seen suggest the team feels that way. I think the main disagreement with the OP is expecting it right out of the gate. Not to mention the other teams all get paid to play too, there's a reason most NFL games don't end in blowouts. If we're still struggling to score 4-6 weeks into the season then a lot more people will be concerned.
