If Saints Don't Serve 40-Burgers, We in Trouble...
OP is right, guys, IMO.
A winning mindset always ends with the cream rising to the top, and when it does — they need to assert their dominance whenever in a position to do so.
Think of it this way; there is always a list a mile long of people who have doubted you, or wronged you. The more doubt and hate there is, the more this perfect storm keeps developing like an area of low pressure in the gulf right before the fall.
The doubt creates motivation, which creates belief, which creates camaraderie, which creates the confidence and ability to come back or jump out to a lead against any team, seemingly at will.
The winning mindset in sports is rooted in a belief that you are, in fact, currently.. or will soon be the best at what you do.
Legends like Novak Djokovic (who have mastered this mindset) know with every fiber of their soul that no one works as hard as they do, or wants it more than they do. And the hate people show towards people like this is like pure jet fuel for their work ethic and their competitive drive.
So, give the finger to as many doubters as you can (always tactfully and in a respectable way) and if we can help it, hang as many forty burgers as we can where it is advantageous to do so.
It’s all about winning, but let’s face it: an undefeated team that scores 10 points a week isn’t scaring anyone. At least not the same way a 14-win team is that is dropping 40 every other week, against any highly competent defenses — all while not giving an inch on D, ourselves.
One thing I’ve learned in competitive sports and being a front runner in your respective standing still surprises me to this day, but it’s true: when your opposition perceives there’s a large gap between your ability and theirs, you often won’t see their best because they convince themselves they have already lost and don’t deserve to be on the same field as you.
This psychological tendency of mediocre teams and beyond, I believe played a big part in our 13 game streak in 2009, and the handful of 6-8 game winning streaks we’ve had since.
So, im with the OP. I say forty burgers aplenty, whenever the opportunity presents itself.
