Don’t you dare blame Jameis

If you're comparing how much they had to deal with that was the same, let's look at one key difference: number of practice reps with the first team. That's a factor as well, and Jameis was starting to warm up that last drive, which was no small feat with that offensive line.

I'd rather have Carr in there, no doubt. But Jameis went in and performed as most backup QB's would do who are thrown into the game due to an injury to the starter; it takes time to get into the rhythm, especially when the O-line is not allowing much of a rhythm to happen. I don't think he deserves any blame in this one, quite frankly. Now after a week with starter reps, then I expect more. But this week, no.
Umm…one of those QB’s has been with this team and in the system since 2020. The other just got here. I want Jameis to ball out, but I’m also tired of the incessant excuses for his play, whenever we lose w/him at the helm. He was not primarily the reason we lost, but he absolutely had a role.

It’s ridiculous to not have salted away that game when we were up 17-0 going into the 4th Q. Even one scoring drive would’ve likely secured the win. No way, if the roles were reversed, would this many people be saying Carr was totally blameless for not even getting us near the red zone in nearly two quarters of play. Jameis has blame to carry in this loss. He’s been in this system too long for people to keep harping on the system not being catered to him. He‘s not our QB1, he’s our backup. As a backup you either learn the system or you bounce. And he’s been our backup QB longer than he’s been our starter.

At some point, JW’s defenders and his detractors need to find a way to objectively evaluate his play. Jameis wasn’t the sole reason we lost, but he definitely didn’t help us win. If people were honest with themselves, most of us would readily admit had Carr finished the game, we likely win comfortably—given how the defense was playing with an offense that could move the chains. The entire team seemed to lose hope when Carr went down. Hopefully, they rebound next week. But for today, Carr’s loss was felt & neither JW(nor the team) had the ability to rise above the adversity.
