That word seems to have lost its original meaning unless there is something else going on I'm missing.

The one going on as we speak in Gaza at the hands of the IDF:

Genocide is cited as "the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group."

Are the bolded portions inaccurate as to what is occurring?
