That was different. Anyone with eyes could see that Brooks was clearly hurt and couldn't make the necessary throws. Haslett created that problem because he didn't want to create a QB controversy. Delhomme gave us the best chance of winning and actually making the playoffs and Haslett P'Oed it away with yet another incredibly bad coaching decision.
I think some of what people perceive to be the problem is that Winston, when healthy and coached by Payton, was showing signs of growth as a QB. Even after Payton left, he was keeping down the TO's and bad decisions (not eliminating them) until he got hurt. He was never given a legitimate shot to reclaim the starting job. Winston wasn't DA's QB. Carr is DA's QB and he's the QB that DA has staked his HC career on.
There's no doubt for me that there are still people who are still ticked that Hill didn't get the nod over Winston while Payton was here and some of them have held that hate toward Winston. In some instances, Winston has made it easy. However, I think others are sick of seeing the same things that one QB gets criticized for excused when the other QB does the same thing.
We are stuck with Carr for the next 2 years but he is not the answer anymore than Winston is the answer and DA and PC are not the answer as well.
