Was the Saints' Front Office (e.g., Loomis) Fleeced on the Sean Payton Trade?

When Belichick went to New England in 2000, the Jets received from New England the Patriots' 1st round pick in 2000 (pick 16), and 4th and 7th round picks in 2001. However, the Jets sent to New England their 5th round pick in 2001 and 7th round pick in 2002. Essentially, the compensation was the 16th pick in the 2000 draft. And if we go back 53 years, Baltimore received from Miami a first-round pick for the rights to sign Don Shula.

No team was going to give the Saints two 1st round picks. The price was always a 1st round pick and something else.

Even though Bresee looks like a good selection, the problem with the deal Loomis made was wanting an immediate 1st round pick (which was perhaps the 30th pick in the draft) because he was desperate after the stupid trade he made with Philadelphia.

It's the problem with this team's management. They make deals always thinking about today and never tomorrow. They trade away their future picks, and when the next draft takes place, they get desperate looking to replace the picks they traded away and make more bad trades.
