If we miss out on Daniels, is there another QB to draft in the 1st?
I can't help but to chuckle at all the talk of wanting to find a QB that doesn't get injured. The only quarterbacks that don't get hurt in this league are those carrying clipboards on the sidelines. I know there's a debate about 'pocket' vs 'running' quarterbacks regarding which ones are more likely to experience a lost time injury. But the fact is that pocket QBs are constantly getting knocked out of playing time due to big hits and defensive pressure while in the pocket. Drew was out longer with a thumb that smashed into a helmet than when a body slam into the turf shattered all his ribs. :covri:
Now that so many QBs are learning to safely slide to the turf before taking on defenders, many more are deciding to bail out of a collapsing pocket rather than getting hammered while waiting for a receiver to get open. And running QBs are also getting the added benefit of rule changes that make officials ultra sensitive to 'extracurricular impacts' on these key players.
Injuries are a sad reality in this game that rarely has anything to do with a QB's endurance or physique. I'm not nearly as concerned about having a running style QB as our starter as I once was. It's nearly impossible to predict the longevity of one type over the other. The best way to keep a QB healthy is to find offensive linemen who can help keep his uniform clean. The best quarterbacks are most often the ones with great linemen in the trenches.
