Pete Carmichael fate?

I'd like him on the staff in some capacity and I'd like the system to be kept in place, but built on.

It just seems counter-intuitive to hire a new guy/new system and have Carr on his like 6th offensive system in last 8 years, along with the entire offense learning a new scheme. If you thought they were disjointed this year, wait until nobody can help anyone.
I understand the sentiment behind this. But this system has been in place for over 15 years and the guy responsible for adding the new "wrinkles" to build on it, as Payton liked to call them, is gone. So what we're left with is predictable. If we switch coaching staffs, start getting the cap right and reevaluate the entire roster and how they are used, I think fans will be more patient with the next staff than with this one if those are the circumstances.

As for Carr, I don't think Carr can be guaranteed to be part of the long term plan. I think you draft a rookie in the 1st or 2nd and sign another vet to compete in camp and let them duke it out with Carr and Haener. Let the coach designing the offense pick those players to suit what they have in mind. The QB best able to gel with the new offense and the other players wins. Regardless of experience or salary. And I think this method should be used across the roster, not just QB.
