Jameis motivational speech
Winston is always positive on the sidelines and in the locker room.
Unfortunately, Haener didn't get to see the briefcase. He was a healthy scratch yesterday. He will never see the field this season not matter what happens. My biggest issue is the Saints moved up in the draft to get him and have done nothing to prepare him for the big leagues except pre-season games. There have been a few teams this year that have used their rookie QB's. I don't think DA even remotely considered playing him when Carr got banged up.
Put me in that group who are high on Haener, and anxious to see how/if he might develop. But hopefully not this year. I believe it's better for rookie QBs to "redshirt" rather than throwing them to the wolves. Haener was a 4th rounder....doesn't mean he can't play in this league....just means he wasn't READY to play in this league. Hopefully, a year of seasoning and pro-level conditioning and strength training are all that's needed?!
Unfortunately, he missed 6 weeks of that due to his suspension. That's a LOT, and at a critical time, for a critical position! I'm still a Haener fan, and I still want to see what he's capable of, but still hoping it isn't until 2024. If we see him before then, something went horribly wrong.
But now, I'm very concerned about Haener's future in NO. Has anyone else seen the news blurb that the Saints tried to poach Broncos QB Ben DiNucci from their practice squad?

What does this say about Haener's future prospects in NO? The bigger takeaway, IMO, is that most players in the league salivate for the chance to move up from the PS to an active roster....ANYONE'S ACTIVE ROSTER. It's a chance to show they belong. Yet, DiNucci viewed staying on the Broncos PS as a better opportunity than active roster for the Saints. He's probably right, but that's potentially a problem moving forward under the continued regime of DA. If players in the league would rather stay on their current PS roster, than sign with the Saints active roster, that's a peek into how the Saints are viewed around the league under DA. And it's probably a sneak preview of how FA is likely to unfold.
Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe I'm just alarmist. Or maybe I'm just ahead of the curve. Jeezus, I hope I'm wrong!
