Maybe you would find "degenerate" too strong a word. It's certainly subjective.

Letterman had multiple affairs, many with women he'd hired. Don't think I've ever heard too many negative things about Carson. That said, I don't think either was ever known for being overly critical of anyone in a spiteful way even if it may have been warranted.
