Jeff Duncan: Inside the Saints Culture Issues

My apologies. He went 7-9, 8-8, and then the Super Bowl. Then, three straight years of 7-9 from 2014-2016. Still had the attention of the team. DA does not have the support from the team.
Actually there is multiple reports that locker room fractures and SP loyalty to certain coaches and players played a role in those 7-9 years. Team captains including Strief had meetings with SP and voiced their concerns. He then replaced coaches and players. He refocused on the team and his coaching style and things were better. He never totally lost team or the locker room and was able to gain it back. That led to success the following years but let’s not pretend everything was prefect during his tenure.

Now everything we are hearing is that there was similar issues this year and maybe even last year. Can DA avoid totally losing the locker room? Can he bring it back and succeed? Will he get rid of coaches and players that were causing the issues? I have my doubts BUT the first step in that process is not completely losing the locker room. And by all reports he didn’t. He may not have completely won them back over but it sounds like they are headed in the right direction. There was even a report that most players on expiring deals voiced a strong desire to return next year. In my opinion it’s a 50/50 toss up if Latt is here next year. MT is gone. But Demario, Cam, AK, McCoy will all be here next year. We will be fine with veteran leadership.
