During Bountygate he was trying desperately to get some kind of permanent gig with ESPN and became their go to source, which just devolved into him telling them what they wanted to hear. He sensationalized and editorialized a lot when given this taste of a national platform. His plan didn't work and no job ever materialized, despite his clear desperation for it.

He's a bullshirt artist. As has already been said, he's going to do what generates clicks/views. I do think there's some merit to the idea of him being a mouthpiece for the office right now. He's the kind of slimy reporter you would use for something like that.
