What Song Most Encapsulates the 1980s?

Actually REM started in 1980 and released Radio Free Europe in 1981. It was early 1981 that we saw them—I think.

The Damned broke up in 1977 but reformed in 1979 without Brian James, who went on to form The Lords of the New Church with Stiv Bators in 1982.

The Black Album in 1980 still remains The Damned’s best album IMHO. They broke up again in 1985 or 86

I missed Black Flag. They played The 9:30 club in DC but I was never able to make one of their shows.
The Damned were the first U.K. punk band to release a single, album and tour the States in 1977. Their first debut album, was produced by Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, and recorded at Floyd’s home-built London studio, Britannia Row in early 1978.

D.C had one hell of a vivacious, lively hardcore punk scene in the early-to-mid 1980’s, along with Husker Du in Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Dallas/Ft. Worth, and of course, SF and L.A. with the Dead Kennedys with Jello Biafra., Fear, Bad Brains, Agent Orange and The Minutemen.
