Ok, You are Dennis Allen
For me it's
1, Hire Waldron for OC, Of the 3 guys mentioned as candidates he's the one that give us the best chance of winning now, Robinson and Pitcher have no play-calling experience and if I'm DA I don't need a period of time for them to figure it out and get a groove
2, If Waldron doesn't want his own OL coach fire Doug Marrone. The OL had regressed EVERY yr since we re-hired DM. 1st guy I'm calling is Roy Istvan the Ast OL coach for the Eagles, he's been learning from the best OL coach in the league Stoutland
3, Sign a GOOD LT in FA, We probably can't afford great but we can do good. Ram has said he'll be back let's hope he's better than he was last yr. if not he's a liability @ RT
4, Sign a GOOD edge rusher in FA , just like LT we can't afford a great one but a good one is in our reach.
5, In the draft unless someone like Bowers falls to 14 draft a starting or soon to be starting O lineman and a pass rusher.
6, Make developing Penning a PRIORITY
These are all based on what we know now. Underhill said he does not expect us to hire an OC before the senior bowl so maybe anther better qualified candidate becomes available
OK , What's your plan or why you don't like mine?
1. I don't understand the Saints willingness to bring in QB coaches w/ no play calling experience, after calling for the head of an experienced OC, with little play calling experience. I'm all for youth, but not a lack of play calling experience. We have 7,8 open open head coaching vacancies this season. There will be many more experienced play callers available at the senior bowl.
The OC here is going to have to de facto run the offense. I think hiring Gruden would be a mistake, but in this case a great example of a guy who could run his own ship, and not be influenced by Mickey.
2. Whether you believe in Doug Morrone or not, he is a good O line coach. He isn't david copperfield. This O line has been mismanaged by Sean and Mickey. It is tough to make Doug the fall guy for this. Letting Armstead go, extending Ruiz, Ram's knee (bone on bone I'm told), Penning being a bust. Loomis let the O line go for yrs. he should have known that after Drew left, the QB and O line needed an up grade. No, not blaming Doug for this mess.
3. I think either FA or draft could be the answer. It will depend on who shakes loose in FA, and who is available when we pick in the draft.
4. The same thing holds true here. I think either FA or draft could be the answer. It will depend on who shakes loose in FA, and who is available when we pick in the draft.
5. With all the QBs, WRs projected to go in the first 15 picks, O linemen, and Pass rushers could fall into our lap. If Lucky Loomis doesn't give away our picks.
6. What does make Penning a priority really mean. They made him the starter. He was so bad he made everyone else on the line better, just by his benching. Develop Penning into what? LG? Don't say LT! Penning can't stop speed. He was still getting beat by the inside move last year. He will be a bust at RT also, be cause he can't stop speed. You have to move him to LG.
