Samsung Galaxy S24

Which is fine and I was aware at the time of trade. But the fact remains that they've had my trade since Sept and I still haven't received a credit of any type.

Maybe you'll have better luck than I and some of the others had.
It won't help now, but BestBuy does trade-ins and you can do it in the store.
For example, when you go to the product page and start a purchase, it will ask if you want to do a trade-in. Once you fill out the make/model info, you have the option of bringing your device to one of the stores, and they evaluate it there and will give you credit for it on the spot.

I thought Verizon was doing a $1K credit like AT&T was for any trade in.

From my understanding, the $1K is a credit spread out over 36 months? You don't actually get a check for $1K. They just take $1K off the price of the phone, then charge you for the difference over 36 months. IOW, say retail on the phone is $1300. Instead of charging you $36.11 every month for 36 months (which is about $1300), they only charge you $8.33 a month for 36 months (which is about $300) to cover the cost of the phone. The $1K is built into your monthly bill as a credit as in the end you are only paying $300 for the phone instead of $1300.

In any case, I guess I'll be the AT&T guinea pig on this deal, as I've decided to pull the trigger on an S24 Ultra with the 512Gb storage. I'll post updates of my experience.

I think in addition to the above, you pay taxes on the original amount, not the discounted amount.

And yes, that free/discounted phone is in the form of bill credits (aka another form of essentially locking you into a contract). If you leave early, you forfeit the remaining bill credits and owe the remaining balance on the phone. If you don't pay it off, they will blacklist your phone and might send you to collections. Some people are okay being locked into something for 3 years... me... I couldn't do it lol

Tmobile still does 24 month bill credits. I think tmobile at least has an early upgrade program, not sure about the other two companies https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones/Guides/a-guide-to-t-mobiles-jump-early-upgrade-plans
