Falcons Request Interview With LSU Co-coordinator Cortez Hankton

It just seem strange to go after Hankton when he wasn't the OC last year and didn't call plays. So, it wasn't really his offense they were running. To some extent it was Denbrock's offense but it's really Brian Kelly's offense. Hankton is no doubt a very good coach, but college position coach to NFL OC would be a big leap.
Hankton’s been a passing game coordinator for the last 5 years too. PGC for 3 years at Georgia (‘19-‘21), PGC for 2 years at LSU (‘22-‘23), now co-OC at LSU. I think his time as PGC for two top college programs is what’s getting him a look for a pro OC interview, along with developing Nabors and Thomas as WR coach. Falcons get a first look at how his experience with developing passing game plans and play designs for Smart and Kelly could translate to the pros as OC right now.

It definitely would be a huge promotion for Hankton’s coaching career if he goes from college PGC straight to pro OC before his co-OC season started. He probably remains at LSU this year but I think he’ll become a NFL team’s pass game coordinator soon. OC won’t be long after.
