Broncos hiring Pete Carmichael

I don't think the scheme is outdated at all. I'm of the mindset that it takes certain "skill" to run it, as you mentioned but a HoF QB isn't really necessary, as much as actually being able to read the field and throw with anticipation. I believe that CSP will get his QB and work to build the offense around them. Kinda knew that Russ wasn't going to be the best fit, not because of him being washed or anything, but because his skillset really doesn't match a lot of what's needed. But this also shows how CSP and Sneaky Pete are different. I believe that Pete can design the crap out of plays but, as we always talk about, creating plays and calling them are 2 different beast. I think getting back with CSP is a good move for him.

On another note, I believe that "modern offenses" are really just offshoots of college systems meant to be as "QB friendly" as possible, as QB development no longer exist.

You could be right. I just think that the level of field awareness, pocket awareness, ability to anticipate throws, and accuracy that Brees had made the offense what it was. Without him it just hasn't looked smooth and there are no easy plays or throws. Contrast that with the stuff Shanahan and McVay do where mediocre QBs look great and good QBs look amazing because the scheme creates easy throws and easy reads. And I think the run scheme in both versions of that system is an underrated feature.

Plus, it appears that Cover 2 is the cryptonite for the Payton scheme unless you have a QB with the anticipation and accuracy Brees had fitting the ball in between the LBs and Safeties.

But, yeah, the "modern offenses" are just stealing the spread, 11 personnel, RPO, Read Option, and motion stuff that has been done in college for years. Then again, the colleges stole it from the high school game which has been doing those things for even longer.
