From Kat Terrell: Saints Tried to Keep Ronald Curry
New OC wants his coach. Could just tell someone that they are fired but instead they tried to find another position for him. That’s the very definition of attempting to keep someone when their current position is no longer available to them. Also there hasn’t been any reports of the saints asking him to take a pay cut. NFL may be different because of the contracts but I know typically in Louisiana employers can’t lower someone’s pay without their consent even if they are being demoted or having responsibilities taken away.
I have personally experience with that from when I was 19. I worked at a bowling alley and was promoted to snack bar manager. Along with the promotion I received a 2 dollar per hour bump in pay. Which was decent in 98 and for a 19 year old. Anyways fast forward 10 months and the owner decided to hire someone in their 30s with some restaurant experience for my position and demote me. He asked me to sign a paper authorizing him to bump my pay back down. I refused and he had to pay me my current salary… for another 2 months until he find a reason to fire me. Now obviously I know my situation is different.
How many years did RC have left on his contract? Coach contracts are fully guaranteed so would we have had to keep paying him.. until he was hired somewhere else. Which he was so that’s a moot point. Couple interesting facts to me concerning coach’s contracts. The Raiders are still paying Gruden 10m a year. From his original 10 year 100m contract. And it’s estimated that between 2017 and 2022 the 32 teams combined paid 800m to coaches and executives that were fired. Good thing all that dead money doesn’t count towards the cap.
