Bucs Releasing Shaq Barrett

I don’t think the move saves them any space. He had a $14m cap charge and $26m dead money, so they actually have $12m less space this year.

What it does is open up future space. They avoid paying him a $15m option bonus, so it saves them that amount plus his other 2024 salary/bonus over two years ($26m cap hit this year versus $43m spread over two years).
I’m reading that they will make him a post June cut so they will save 4.9m this year. Every site has his dead cap listed at 9.2m this year and next year with a post June cut. That adds up to 18.4m but it’s 26m this if he’s not a post June cut. Where did that other 7.6m go? 26m-18.4=7.6m. I’m still trying to learn the ins and outs of the cap.
