Saints signed QB Nathan Peterman

Seriously, though, I get it, even if Peterman was one of the original NFL memes for being so awful as a starter.

The point of the #2 here is not to play and win games. It's to be a vet who can help manage the game from the sidelines. If Carr actually has to miss significant time, you roll with Haener.
This is correct.

In another life I worked in investment banking, and we advised a deal that Brett Favre was part of. One day we got to talking, and the subject of his backups came up (I think it was because Mark Brunell was our backup). I asked him what made a good backup quarterback, and he said essentially whT you said.

He said, “I never viewed the other guys in the quarterback room as my threat. Some of those guys earlier in my career were good; but I was better.

Towards the end of my career the coaches leaned on my relationships with my quarterbacks as I used them as a second set of eyes, and a sounding board as much as I used the coaches, and in many cases they were better than some of our coaches in telling me what I needed.”

Back to the topic at hand. I hope Peterman makes it. This place could use more Seinfeld references.
