No, but good Lord. We could have done better than that even at league minimum. Peterman is truly awful. It's like we didn't even want someone to even come close to competing with Haener, let alone Carr. Peterman is horrid. It's competition in name only. Not actual competition. That's what disgusts me about the move.
They could’ve done better by signing Kyle Allen for the same price. He’s 28 and made vet minimum last year. He filled in nicely when he started games in Carolina and Washington.
Haener should be at the level of a Kyle Allen though as a former 4th rounder. They invested a 4th, two picks overall, in him and feel comfortable in moving forward with him behind Carr. He showed that he can adequately lead the offense during rookie TC/preseason and continuing to get better. He has good passing traits in release and accuracy that Kubiak and Janocko should feel good about further developing. He’s been the plan for 2024 QB2 since he was drafted last year.
Peterman signing is scheme install related than to bring excitement about a clipholder while we already have our guy to be backup QB since last April. I don’t think its meant to be happy or disappointed for as a fan.
