Bears Talking To QB Prospect Eyed For "Taysom Hill-Like" Role

According to Jacob Infante of Windy City Gridiron, the Bears have spoken with Temple quarterback Quincy Patterson II, a 6-foot-3 and 240-pound prospect who he says is drawing interest for a “Taysom Hill-like role” from teams during the pre-draft process.

Patterson — a Chicago native — operated in short-yardage situations as both a running back and quarterback over the past two seasons, putting up 219 rushing yards, 248 passing yards and six total touchdowns for the Owls in 16 games. He played a more featured role in his previous stop with North Dakota State with 660 rushing yards, 813 passing yards and 11 total touchdowns over 14 games for the Bison in 2021.

Patterson also spent three years with Virginia Tech’s program, playing 13 games.

With the success Taysom Hill has had in New Orleans with the Saints the past 7 years no other team has been able to find a player capable of duplicating fully what TH7 does. That doesn't mean other NFL teams haven't tried to find their own player to fill the many roles Hill has been able to do. They just haven't found his clone yet.

Does one exist? So far Taysom has been a unicorn, a one of one in the NFL.

What this indicates is that there are plenty NFL franchises that value the unique role that Hill brings to a team and would cherish having a single player capable of carrying out all of those roles for their team. That player would most likely come in the form of an undrafted dual option QB willing to embrace the "Taysom Hill-Like" role in order to secure a position on a teams 53-man roster. This kid Patterson seems to be selling himself in that role to teams who may be willing to give him a chance to show he can do a number of the things that TH7 does.
Isn’t their Taysom already on the team?
