Saints signed Kicker Charlie Smyth (re-signed to 2 year deal)

He got the tryout and contract as a kicking specialist. Multi position role is a good alternative if he doesn’t win the Kicker job. He has the athletic background to possibly be a utility guy by coming from GAA. I don’t think he’ll have those roles if he’s relied on to be the Kicker though. Too much contact will put him in a position to blow out his leg or knee whether he’s main or backup Kicker.

Beyond the positions I already mentioned, he is also going to fill the position of director of football theory. Dennis Allen values his fresh concepts since he has only been around the game a few months. Expect the next evolution of football this season from the Saints.
