I guess by Plato's definition of "politics" that's true. But as with most words the meaning has evolved. So now when we say politics, we really mean partisan politics because them terms partisan politics and politics have become synonymous.

But, that's why it's so hard to maintain an "EE" board without politics invading or having to limit topics that should not involve partisan politics, because no matter what you do someone will try to turn almost every conversation into one about politics.
and i'd also argue that's why it's important to draw the distinction between 'partisanship' and 'politics' more broadly -
discussions of race, gender, ethnicity, et al can be labeled 'politics' when they are often way more sociocultural discussions
it's a policy that can often protect regressive ideas - and no policy should do that
