Andrus Peat signs with the Raiders (Merged)

I would have liked Peat back to provide some assurance on the left side. But whatever the reasons, that door is now closed.

I do believe Penning has what it takes and I do still believe he was improving, slowly, game by game last year. I still don't fully understand why they completely, 100% pulled the plug on him. I don't think the scheme, coaching and play calling helped him very much nor, based on performance, anyone else on the OL. It was just awful to watch.

I have a lot of hope in moving to a run first offense and building off of that. Easier said than done, but if you can achieve it, things become much easier for the OL and you can cover a lot of things up. When the defense has to consider 3rd and 6 or 7 a potential running down, it changes things. As Baldinger says, 3rd and 13 is still 3rd and 13 but if that happens a lot less, than that's progress. And even on 3rd and 13, you can do some things to slow down the rush/ speed up the pass.

And for all his demonstrated weaknesses, one thing Penning is good at is run blocking / wide zone run blocking which makes 'run first' a more viable proposition.
