Kool-Aid McKinstry Can he play safety?

I only prefer to go down this path if we are sure Lattimore will be here long term and that we're not shipping him out. If there's a chance we move on from Lattimore after this season, I'd prefer to get as many reps as possible even as a backup at boundary CB. And then there's Adebo who is set to hit free agency after this season.

Let's say the staff decides to try him at safety if he doesn't do well in the slot.. and then after this season, Lattimore is shipped out and/or Adebo walks. Then what, are we going to move him back to boundary when we suddenly have a void there after he spent his rookie season getting safety reps?

There's too much uncertainly at outside CB past 2024 for me to even think considering this is a good idea. Cornerback is the more premium and coveted position and a position he excelled in at Alabama, particularly in a scheme that mirrors how Allen likes to play defense. If this franchise really is focused on building for the long-term, this is not a path they'll go down this year. I'm not ruling it out in the future if we're still having a hard time finding a way to get him onto the field next year, but right now I think getting cornerback reps is what's most important.
