Yannic ngaqua (sp)

I assume you're referring to Yannick Ngakoue.

In short, Ngakoue is probably looking for more money than the Saints are willing to spend for his production and rightfully so.

His last two contracts he signed for $10.5M/year for 1 year (Chicago) and $13M/year for 2 years (Las Vegas). While he had 10 sacks and 36 total pressures, Vegas still traded him to the Colts after year 1 for an average/mediocre CB and Chicago let him walk after this year. $10.5M for 4 sacks and 11 total pressures is a steep price to pay.

For the production that Yannick Ngakoue had last season, the Saints had 3 guys on the defensive line (including interior guys) that put up essentially the same production for way less money (about $6.2M COMBINED and ~$2M/year each) and they all did it on a fraction of the snaps it took Ngakoue on a 72% snap rate.

For comparison...
Essentially the same production from all these guys (including a rookie) on between ~1/3rd less (Bresee), ~1/4 less (Shepherd), and ~1/2 less snaps (Kpassagnon) and they each only cost ~1/5th the price of Ngakoue. At that point, you're only paying for the name on the jersey and not the production in it.

He was a non-factor in our game against the Bears last year too which should raise questions with how bad our OL was at that point last season. Even though we will likely be without Kpassagnon for a stint this year, I doubt Ngakoue would sign for the $3.3M Kpassagnon was scheduled to make this year and even if he did, we would be his 7th team in 6 years. That's not a good look.

Also being 29 years old doesn't help his price tag.
