Saints Minicamp Updates Day 2 / 6-12-24

Something to debate later on. Do you want a quarterback to stay in the pocket and improvise or someone to just scramble and get whatever yardage possible?
I think scrambling quarterbacks are more of a headache for defenses. A good scrambler buys more time even if he’s not in the pocket and that allows receivers to get open. Not much you can do to defend it. It’s sort of pick your poison once the QB escapes the pressure. Either you come up, try to tackle him and leave your assignment, or you give the QB an opening to run and pick up yards that way.
Scramblers seem to be better on third down because they can use their legs to pick it up if the initial play is not there.

I like pocket QBs too, but you can teach that stuff. The improv, getting outside the pocket and throwing on the run are just skills not many people have.
