Saints Minicamp Updates Day 2 / 6-12-24

You want a guy who can run to get you an extra couple first downs a game. But you don't want a guy where the offense requires him to run 6 - 8 times per game. That's not a good recipe for longevity. Maybe in the playoffs when it's all on the line you'd be ok with a 5 or 6 rush state line, but you can't do that and make it through the season any more and the QB position is just too important to risk it.

Learn to check it down. A couple times per game take the run instead of the check down that's covered and isn't going to make it to the sticks. No more than that.
A scrambling qb can still check it down if he wants to. I’ve seen a lot of times where the db or linebacker comes up to stop them and they just throw it over their head to a receiver.
