Best Win Ever Against: Atlanta Falcons

Good offseason discussion topic. I guess you are correct about the NFCCG being the most consistently loud. And yes the return to the Dome was the most emotional thing I have ever seen or heard. Admit to tears that night as well

But I as an old timer go back to circa 85??? We were 8-7 and the final game of the year was against the Rams. Win and we have our FIRST winning season EVER not to mention our first playoff game. We are up 17-16 (historian fans can fix my stats if I am wrong). Bum Phillips decides against letting Morton Anderson kick a 47 yard FG instead relying on the Dome Patrol. Under 2 minutes. When the defense came on the field the rest of the team was standing on the bench waving white towels. I’m telling you. And I have been there since 67… I think that was the loudest I have ever heard the Dome. It was insane. Then Landsford??? Kicks a long FG and the place goes deafly silent for maybe a minute or so. Then we just started clapping. Thanking the team for a great ride.
Crushing. He was kicking towards me and to my left and I just knew he was gonna make it. Absolutely crushing. And, as you alluded, everyone leaving the Dome saying, "Why didn't he let Morten kick it?"

Part of the different noise perspective may be nostalgia, but it is also seat position in the Dome. For example, we were mid-level end zone at Tulane and, to my recollection, the loudest I ever heard it there was Dempsey's kick, and Archie's last second TD against the Rams (sadly, both in the opposite end zone from us). Then we were low-level end zone the first years in the Dome but there wasn't much to cheer about those years. Then my own first paid-for ST as an adult were the cheap seats way up in the Terrace corner, Bum-through-Mora, and as you pointed out, the defense could bring the noise down. Sadly, the loudest recollections for me there were a number of times screaming for a 4Q stop against the 49ers that didn't come. Then, quite a number of individual Loge experiences when I was living out of town -- pretty boring and partially sheltered from the noise. And now my ST are in Row 2 of what we used to call the Padded Terrace - I think of all my experiences, the noise comes at you louder at that location than others I've been.

And the noise sounds different in all those different places.
