Derek Carr Speaks His Thoughts On Taysom Hill

I just hope the new staff finds a role for him that works for Hill and the entire offense. I personally don’t think he’s a legit TE. He can play starting TE in the NFL, but that doesn’t mean he SHOULD be playing TE. To his credit, he does it because we need him to do it. That’s all you can ask of a player, but I just think we should put less on Hill’s plate so he can focus on being GREAT at his particular role. Having him all over the field is exciting, but to me it’s not ideal. We need a real pass catching TE badly. I’m hoping Holker is that guy.

I’m really hoping we use Hill out of the backfield so he can be motioned around and used on dump offs and occasional runs up the gut. Having him in the QB room is too much. Carr should take 99 percent of the snaps there, and i’m hoping the new staff is more creative in how they use Taysom. Just snapping him the ball and telling him to run is too predictable. His rushing average is good, but he does get tackled around the line a good bit when we do that. Excited to see how his role changes under a new staff with fresh eyes.
This offense more than others requires multiple versatile players. Wr's that can play all three positions. Te's that can play TE, WR and FB. Rb's that can play RB and WR. So Taysom is not only the perfect piece for them to use, but actually gives us a chance to excell in year 1 under this system, imo. They will use him early and often, he'll be in every first and second down. And if its 3rd and managable, id expect him on 3rd too.
