An Illinois sheriff’s deputy has been charged with murder after fatally shooting a Black woman who called 911 to report a possible prowler.

Sangamon county deputy Sean Grayson, who’s white, shot 36-year-old Sonya Massey in the face in her home in Springfield, Illinois – about 200 miles south of Chicago – after deputies responded to her 6 July call.

Prosecutors alleged that after Grayson, 30, allowed Massey to move a pot of water heating on the stove and set it on a counter. Grayson then “aggressively yelled” at Massey over the pot and pulled his 9mm pistol. Massey then put her hands in the air, declared “I’m sorry” and ducked for cover before being shot in the face.

In its statement issued the day of the incident, the Sangamon county sheriff’s office initially said “deputies immediately administered first aid until EMS arrived” after Massey was shot, but prosecutors allege Grayson discouraged the other deputy from getting his medical kit to save her.……

To Sangaman Co credit, they fired the Deputy Grayson and charged him with murder! The woman attempted to pour out the boiling water (that is why she turned on the water in the sink) and the cowardly deputy interrupted her and began barking demands after she says "awwwe, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus".

She NEVER moved towards that coward Grayson nor did she raise the pot in an aggressive manner. Grayson stopped his partner from grabbing his med-kit, eventhough Massey was still breathing, he finally relented after 2+minutes had passed and his partner moved to apply pressure to her wounds.

It would be another 3+mins before Grayson returns with the med-kit and she was still alive when EMS arrived 7 mins after she was shot. I hope that thug burn in hell after he receives prison yard justice.

I'll say again, I give great credit to Sangamon Sheriff Dept for their prompt actions against that cowardly deputy...the same cannot be said about SrA Forston's murderer. Nothing but crickets out of Okaloosa, FL.
