And he is still OK at buying time and throwing a nice deep pass. That still looked great last season but he wanted to get away from that type of offense; the problem is, it never fit his skillset. Everyone saw the results but never took into account actual QB skill. I made mention of this when there was some noise about Russ coming here a few years back.
Like every QB in the league, Russ is great when he is in an offense that fits his skillset. Not as much when he has to do certain things. There are QBs that have traditional QB skillsets (5-7 step drops with true progression) and there are some that can just operate in shotgun and simplified reads. The problem is we don't take those things into account when actually evaluating QBs.
