This team has 2 serious problems - and a few other observations

This factually could not be more wrong.

Penning immediately loses the leverage battle and gets bench pressed back onto his heels.

At this point the defender has complete leverage and can disengage inside or out. The play was completely ruined because Penning was beat.

You can try to argue the reciever is designed to cut inside (absolutely not) but even if that was the case Penning had ZERO inside leverage.

I would put that more on the runner than the blocker. Reaching a wide 9 without giving up any ground to gain the leverage you want is tough. Penning gets the leverage he needs but gives a little depth to do it. Is it possible to do better there? Yes, I think so, but I think it's acceptable.

Means starting angling upfield too early and then hesitated. He should have stayed flatter initially, and continued to work to the sideline where the space was being created. Penning was the pivot on the gate.
