Allen better not mess around with naming Rattler QB#2
I think you can make a fair argument that neither is more than a developmental QB at this point, suggesting you cut one and sign a vet back up.
Not what I'd hope happens, but I can see the argument.
I'm pretty sure that the Saints will enter 2024 with Carr as the starter and Haener/Rattler as the backups with Taysom Hill as the insurance policy.
I don't see any scenario where the Saints cut one of the younger QBs and bring in a veteran backup.
My reasons why not.
1. Both young QBs show promise and have been with the team the entire offseason through OTAs, Mini Camp, Training Camp, and Pre-Season in this system.
2. Should Carr get injured the Saints can play either or both of the young QBs. Unless Carr is out for an extended period of time, they will be office temps anyway.
3. Hill would see extra QB snaps if Carr were to go out, whether short term or long term. He may be named the starter should both of the young guys struggle.
4. Cutting either one of the young QBs would expose them to waivers which they could get claimed elsewhere not giving the Saints a chance to develop on the PS.
5. A veteran QB that would be available at this point may not be better than any of the above and would take several weeks to get up to speed with the system.
No Way!
